The ICI Fellowship in Dental Implantology is a comprehensive, four-level postgraduate education programme designed to equip practising dentists with the knowledge, surgical skills and clinical confidence required to deliver predictable, evidence-based implant treatment.

 

Developed by the Institute of Clinical Implantology (ICI), the Fellowship provides a structured progression from foundational implant placement through to advanced bone regeneration, complex restorative rehabilitation and full-arch implant surgery.

 

Delivered through intensive, clinically focused education, the programme combines contemporary scientific evidence, practical surgical training, restorative principles and real-world clinical decision-making.

 

Unlike isolated short courses, the ICI Fellowship has been designed as a cohesive educational pathway, allowing participants to progressively develop their skills while building upon the knowledge and experience acquired at each preceding level.

The programme is designed for dentists at different stages of their implantology journey, from those placing their first implants to experienced clinicians seeking to expand their surgical and restorative capabilities.

Four Levels of Clinical Progression - 56 Hours of CPD

 

Level 1 – Foundations of Implant Dentistry

 

Building the foundations for safe, predictable implant treatment.

The first level introduces participants to the fundamental biological, surgical and restorative principles of modern implant dentistry.

 

Emphasis is placed on patient assessment, case selection, CBCT interpretation, prosthetically driven implant planning, surgical anatomy and the practical techniques required for straightforward implant placement.

Through structured theoretical education and hands-on surgical training, participants develop the foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary to begin their journey in implant dentistry.

 

Core Focus: Implant fundamentals, treatment planning, surgical protocols, single-unit implant placement and restorative principles.

Level 2 – Guided Bone Regeneration & Site Augmentation

Developing the skills to manage deficient bone and optimise implant sites.

Level 2 advances participants into the principles and practical application of Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR), alveolar ridge preservation and bone augmentation.

 

Participants explore the biological foundations of bone regeneration, grafting materials, membrane selection, defect assessment and surgical techniques for managing compromised implant sites.

 

Particular emphasis is placed on horizontal ridge augmentation, flap design, graft stabilisation, soft tissue management and achieving tension-free primary closure.

Core Focus: GBR, bone grafting, socket preservation, horizontal ridge augmentation, membrane techniques and regenerative surgical protocols.

 

Level 3 – Advanced Implant Prosthodontics & Multiple-Unit Rehabilitation

Progressing from single implants to comprehensive restorative rehabilitation.

Level 3 focuses on the surgical and restorative challenges associated with multiple-unit implant rehabilitation.

 

Participants develop a deeper understanding of prosthetically driven implant positioning, restorative biomechanics, implant-supported bridges, occlusal principles and contemporary digital restorative workflows.

 

The module also introduces transcrestal sinus floor elevation techniques, allowing participants to explore minimally invasive approaches to implant placement in the posterior maxilla where residual bone height is limited.

 

Through integrated surgical and prosthodontic education, participants learn to approach more demanding cases with a comprehensive understanding of both the surgical and restorative requirements for long-term success.

 

Core Focus: Multiple-unit implant rehabilitation, implant-supported bridges, digital prosthodontics, biomechanics, occlusion, restorative workflows and transcrestal sinus augmentation.

 

Level 4 – Complex Implantology & Full-Arch Rehabilitation

Advancing into complex surgical techniques and comprehensive full-arch treatment.

The final level represents the most advanced stage of the ICI Fellowship, focusing on complex implant treatment planning, advanced surgical protocols and full-arch implant rehabilitation.

 

Participants explore contemporary approaches to the management of the severely compromised dentition and atrophic jaws, including immediate implant placement, immediate loading concepts, tilted implant configurations and full-arch rehabilitation using

All-on-4 and All-on-X principles.

 

Advanced surgical topics include lateral window sinus floor elevation, management of challenging anatomical presentations and strategies for reducing surgical morbidity while maintaining predictable treatment outcomes.

 

Emphasis is placed on the integration of surgical planning, restorative design, biomechanics, complication management and long-term maintenance.

 

Core Focus: Complex implant surgery, All-on-4/All-on-X, immediate loading, full-arch rehabilitation, advanced treatment planning and lateral window sinus augmentation.

One Fellowship

Four Levels

Flexible Learning

The ICI Fellowship has been designed to provide both a structured postgraduate educational pathway and the flexibility required by busy practising clinicians.

 

Participants are encouraged to complete all four levels in sequence, allowing them to progressively develop their clinical capabilities through a comprehensive and integrated programme of study.

 

Alternatively, each level may be undertaken independently as a standalone professional development course, allowing experienced clinicians to select training aligned with their existing skills, clinical interests and professional development objectives.

 

Dentists completing the full Fellowship pathway will have undertaken a broad programme of theoretical and practical education encompassing foundational implant placement, regenerative surgery, advanced implant prosthodontics and complex implant rehabilitation.
